Listy Listy

I have a day off today to make up for working so much overtime last week, and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I slept until 11 am, drank the most delicious cup of coffee (there’s something about weekend coffee to me that makes it different than weekday coffee, even when it’s the same coffee), and caught up on the show I was watching when I fell asleep at 10:30 last night.

Now I know I’m not the only person who puts already accomplished tasks on to-do lists just so I can cross them off and feel accomplished. I’ve heard others admit to it.

But does anyone else put “drink delicious cup of coffee” on their lists?

Right. Me neither.

Lose Your Life

Heard an interesting song today called “Dancing in the Minefields.” I’m not sure what all the lyrics mean, but I did like this line:

Cause the only way to find your life is to lay your own life down
And I believe it’s an easy price for the life that we have found

Immediately after I heard it, I realized that I need to be more conscious about laying my life down every day. I’ve been so busy for the last month, I’ve been in survival mode. Fortunately survival mode for me includes trying to keep reading the scriptures and ministry at the top of my list, but I still let important things fall to the wayside.

In reality, if I laid my life down – not even, but especially – on those busy days, I might have been more effective for Jesus and more fulfilled for me.

Missional Music Monday – I Will Follow

I Will Follow on YouTube

Where you go, I'll go
Where you stay, I'll stay
When you move, I'll move
I will follow...

All your ways are good
All your ways are sure
I will trust in you alone
Higher than my sight
High above my life
I will trust in you alone

Where you go, I'll go
Where you stay, I'll stay
When you move, I'll move
I will follow you
Who you love, I'll love
How you serve I'll serve
If this life I lose, I will follow you
I will follow you

Light unto the world
Light unto my life
I will live for you alone
You're the one I seek
Knowing I will find
All I need in you alone, in you alone

In you there's life everlasting
In you there's freedom for my soul
In you there's joy, unending joy
and I will follow

Sometimes when I don’t know what I am doing, or why God would choose someone like me to do his work in a place like Spain, this song reminds me that I am simply following Him. I can’t find unending joy in Jesus when I don’t choose to obey Him.

It’s Busy Season

I am busy busy busy.

It’s busy at work (Big Brothers Big Sisters)…

It’s busy at home (homework, preparing for speaking engagements)

It’s busy at church (youth ministry in fall!)

We’ve sort of “endured” these busy seasons in the past. It’s crazy how a busy life doesn’t always equal a full life. Sometimes a busy life is draining. But Chris and I are committed to ensuring a full life, for the sake of ministry.

What is the point, if life isn’t full?

So we are paying attention to the little things: romance, a regular date night (not exactly weekly, but SOMETHING!), affirmations, praying together, reading together, eating together.

It’s work, but it’s working!

Life is busy, but, more importantly, it’s full.

How do you keep a full (read: satisfied) life when you feel “too” busy?

Ministry Photo Book

Our only kid is a cat, so when photo websites give coupons for free photo books, I’m always trying to come up with creative ways to get my money’s freebie’s worth.

Recently, I did it by creating a Ministry Photo Book for us to take with us to churches and small groups when we’re speaking about our ministry in Spain.

It’s a little 8″x8″ book with us posing at ABWE headquarters on the cover.

Inside is a (cutoff) version of our prayer card and Colossians 4:6, our theme verse.
