A Celebration of God's Word

I gotta say – I don’t even know where to begin to describe our experience taking the oral exam. It was almost a private affair; we were, after all, explaining as clearly and precisely as possible the details that make up our spiritual beliefs. The key word there is details.

Our performance was adequate for passing. This is, of course, the most important part. We passed. So now we are planning our trip to Pennsylvania to meet the staff of our sending agency, take seminars and classes on being missionaries, and meet other candidates.

If I were to enumerate on the topics and the questions and the times we felt utterly inadequate, this would be a really long entry. To be completely honest, there were a lot of moments when I felt totally uneducated. I didn’t have a scripture memorized for every point I made; I couldn’t recall familiar words about the beliefs I hold very close to my heart.

But, while we both felt we could have done better, at the end of the day, God answered the prayer we prayed before we got started:

He was present.
He guided us.
He filled our hearts.
He was glorified.
His Word, His perfectly inspired, breathed Word, was celebrated.

One of our moderators said, “I can tell that you are motivated to know the scripture because of how much you care for people.”

Thank you, God!
